Top Trends from Engage!19
Two of the talented experts from our Weddings & Celebrations Team recently returned from Nassau, Bahamas after attending Engage! – the Luxury Wedding Business Summit. Engage! brings together top professionals in the luxury events industry for four days of inspiration, innovation and collaboration.
The Breakers has been honored to host this incredible summit three times for Engage!16, Engage!12 and Engage!10.
We’re excited to share everything we’ve learned from this year’s summit with our Breakers’ brides and grooms. Here are a few of the top takeaways and new trends for couples getting ready to say “I Do”…

Embrace Your Locale
Draw inspiration not only from your love story, but from your destination as well. For the Engage!19 Gala, sea grape leaves and palms were utilized to reflect the tropical location, but painted to give a fresh, modern twist. Another way the soiree paid homage to the host destination was with custom chargers that mimicked a porthole filled with water, sand and a touch of glitter. Pink ostrich feathers decorated the chandeliers as a nod to the national bird of the Bahamas, the Flamingo. Each event featured details that reflected the Caribbean in a fresh way.

Take Your Presentation to The Next Level
From check-in to cake cutting and everything in between, there are so many opportunities to make a lasting impression with guests. Well thought out design and décor, especially for food stations and cocktail bars, should not be overlooked. At Engage!19, attendees were wowed with coordinating splashes of colors, linens and backdrops in meeting spaces, custom wallpaper (that was designed just for the event and able to be removed) in ballrooms and interactive breakout spaces that featured fun, dimensional details.

Unplugged Wedding
Consistently discussed by many of the experts was being present and relishing in the moment. A wedding is such a special celebration, don’t worry about snapping shots of the ceremony on your iPhone, the photographer is beautifully capturing each and every moment. Unplugged weddings aren’t a new trend, but one that our team believes will continue to grow in popularity.
Entertainment Throughout the Evening
Performers, live bands and unique entertainers aren’t just reserved for dancing after dinner. At Engage!19, The Royal Bahamas Police Band escorted attendees out to the lawn for a cocktail break, Junkanoo dancers captured the Bahamian spirit during the opening night reception, live mermaids swam around the pool during the dessert party and even the resident Baha Mar flamingos joined in on the party led by the resort’s Chief Flamingo Officer. Incorporating more interactive entertainment throughout the evening is going to be a huge trend in 2020.

Instagram-worthy Moments
Having multiple Instagram-worthy moments is arguably becoming the biggest trend in weddings and events today. From photo booths to floral installations and more, experts are consistently receiving requests from clients for unique, dedicated photo displays. Engage!19 was full of must-have social media photo opportunities, like the Flour Shop-themed lawn break featuring larger-than-life sprinkles and a living coral mosaic, which served as the backdrop for the main stage.
