New Trends Inspired by the Royal Wedding

More than 29 million Americans tuned in to watch the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tie the knot, us included! Meghan and Harry’s nuptials were anything but ordinary. The couple added a fresh take and modern twist to many of the royal wedding traditions, bringing the monarchy to the modern era.

Without a doubt, Meghan and Harry’s big day will inspire the wedding world. Here are five trends that we predict will become big thanks to the royal wedding.

Simple Gowns

Meghan stunned in an exquisite custom-designed Givenchy gown. The classic style, clean design and impeccable tailoring of the gown created a timeless look that brides-to-be will embrace over gowns with heavy embellishments and detailed beading. It will be interesting to see if the bateau neckline Meghan rocked will receive the same amount of love.

Statement Veils

Meghan’s 16-foot cathedral length veil not only stunned, but paid tribute to the 53 Commonwealth countries with a hand-embroidered flower for each country. We loved both the visual statement and sentiment of her veil and believe there will be a trend of longer veils and also customized and personalized veils.

Less Is More Makeup

Meghan embraced her natural beauty and opted for a fresh-faced makeup look for the big day. Instead of going overboard, she chose an elevated version of her everyday look, complete with sun-kissed freckles. In the future, brides-to-be will certainly take a page from Meghan’s book and makeup artists will hear more requests for the natural look.

Live Musicians and Choirs

Meghan and Harry’s wedding included some of the most talented musical performers in the world. Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the 19-year-old world-renowned cellist, performed and The Choir of St. George’s Chapel serenaded guests as well. Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir gave a chilling performance of “Stand By Me” and closed the ceremony with “Amen/This Little Light of Mine.” Music will definitely be a larger focus of the ceremony, especially choirs, thanks to the royal couple.

Rough Icing

The biggest change from past royal weddings? The cake, which is traditionally fruit cake and usually no less than six tiers covered in fondant. However, Meghan and Harry surprised everyone with four larger unstacked tiers with rough buttercream icing. Rough icing will be a welcome, and delicious, trend.
