6 Ways To Plan An Eco-Friendly Wedding

Green is more than a color palette for your big day, although we are loving this lush tropical wedding.

Sustainability is becoming increasingly more important to couples as they plan the big day and also very easy to incorporate thanks to evolving technologies and a growing demand for green products and services. You don’t have to sacrifice on style in order to be sustainable.

Here are 6 easy ways to shrink your wedding day carbon footprint, we bet you are doing a few of these already…

1. Pick a Sustainable Venue
Not all venues are created equal, especially when it comes to sustainable practices. Choosing a venue that values and is committed to environmentally friendly practices is arguably going to be the biggest way you can have an impact. Not sure where to start? Inquire with potential venues about their LEED certifications, Energy Star rating, recycling policy, and water and energy conservation efforts.

2. Consider Recycled Paper Goods
From save-the-dates, invitation suites, programs, place cards, menus, thank you cards, and more, your wedding will require lots of paper. Post-consumer recycled paper is a great alternative that comes in a wide array of colors, thicknesses and textures so you won’t have to compromise on style or your vision.

3. Utilize Reusable Items
Ensuring your venue or vendors offer tableware, glassware, chargers, flatware and linens that are not single use items will make a huge impact, especially when serving multiple courses. Additionally, ask your venue what alternatives they offer. For a memorable and unique presentation, The Breakers’ can serve seafood on a custom designed carved ice plate!

4. Dispose Wisely
Pop the bubbly and toast your new love! As you select your wedding day champagne, wines and other spirits for your bar, check with your venue to ensure they have a plan for recycling wine, champagne, beer and spirit bottles.

5. Donate Your Flowers
The Breakers Design Studio can bring your vision to life with absolutely gorgeous florals. After the big day, let others enjoy their beauty by donating your flowers. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex generously gifted all of their royal wedding florals to St Joseph’s Hospice in London and brightened many patients’ days. There are organizations that will accept your petals and do all of the work for you, collecting the beauties from your venue and delivering them to local hospitals, nursing homes and charities.

6. Favors With A Purpose
Instead of gifting guests with an item they might not hold onto, consider giving a sweet treat that will be enjoyed as a late night snack. Many couples are opting to donate to a cause close to their hearts and then displaying a sign informing guests that in lieu of favors, the couple has made a contribution to a particular charity.

Happy planning!
