Breakers’ Dream Maker: Trina Chaney-Hoo
With tremendous growth in the last five years, The Planning Company has gone from exclusively offering coordination, to the full-service special event firm we know and love today.
Trina Chaney-Hoo runs a creative team, specializing in graphic design, logistics, event styling and operations. Trina’s motto for her company: “Together we bring something to the table that no other planners in the area offer.”
“I am always striving to create an ‘experience’ for my clients,” Trina says, “It starts the moment your guests hear about your event until they return home. It’s the attention to detail that make the experience.”
Event planning wasn’t always her vision, but her first career wasn’t far off. After earning her degree from Johnson and Wales University, Trina spent time in Miami managing restaurants serving in positions in both corporate and social catering.
“Both of these roles were key in developing my skills and helping me discover where it is that I truly belonged,” Trina recalls. “I often found myself suggesting things that had not been done, getting frustrated by the limitations of the environment, and always wanting to go far beyond the boundaries of my job to create a special experience for my clients.”

A: There is constant stimulation around us. I get inspired by things that go unnoticed by most…a combination of unexpected textures that could be infused into décor elements or a scent that evokes a certain feeling that I want to recreate for an event that I am planning.

Q: If you weren’t a wedding planner, what would you be doing?
A: If I weren’t a wedding planner, I would either be living a minimalist life on a tropical island… or I would be a world-renowned photographer.
Q: What advice would you give to a bride who wants a traditional wedding with a modern twist?
A: I would create a list of the traditional elements that were important to her and the groom, and then create the rest to be a perfect reflection of their personalities and how they want their friends and family to see them as a couple.
Q: Give us three of your favorite wedding must-dos.
A: 1. Special love notes and little unexpected surprises for each other throughout the wedding day. It is priceless to see the look on a bride’s face when she come back from hair and makeup to find a handwritten love note on the bed from her groom. Or for the bride to write something special on the mirror in her shade of lipstick for the groom to find when he goes in to get dressed.
2. A complete transformation of your honeymoon suite!! (The perfect ending to the evening when the bride and groom are finally alone for the first time.)
3. A special thank you to your parents, orchestrated to arrive when you are away on your honeymoon.
Q: The Breakers has an immense history and some amazing architecture — How would you use this to inspire you and your events at the hotel?
A: When we create an inspiration palate for an event, one of the key elements is absolutely the location! With an array of spaces to offer, the Breakers is the perfect place to host an entire week of activity without ever having to leave. Guests are intrigued by the history and grandeur of the property, so it would be a mistake not to allow them to “experience” The Breakers for all that it has to offer.
Q: What’s the most important piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom?
A: I advise our couples to enjoy the process of planning their wedding, but most importantly, to sit back and allow us to take over all of the details. It’s what we do best and we ensure them that we never forget who’s wedding it is!
Our goal is to always create an unforgettable experience that will stand out in the minds of your guests and that they will walk away knowing your “signature style” as a couple.
Q: How does a wedding at The Breakers differ from those at other venues?
A: The service at The Breakers is unparalleled by any other venue. From the catering managers, to the housekeeping staff, to the doormen – they deliver a consistently amazing experience and continually find a way of outdoing themselves!
