Breakers’ Dream Maker: Alan James
When a bride and groom are looking for someone to rock the house on their wedding night, our team turns to Alan James and The Powerhouse Group. Alan is well known as both a performer and a producer, and he has worked with rock legends such as Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton – who is one of his inspirations.
The Powerhouse Group specializes in wedding music from a solo harpist to a full 20-piece classical orchestra. Alan also organizes the company’s 12 different bands, including his signature award-winning band, Powerhouse. With five lead singers and the vocal ability to perform an incredible range of songs, Alan says Powerhouse creates a “fabulous all-night dance party.”
Q: What is it like performing at an event at The Breakers?
A: I have traveled the world performing at major hotels and The Breakers is one of my favorite places to perform for one reason: “They Get It.” From start to finish, every event is handled in the most professional way.
Q: What hot new music trend do you see emerging for winter weddings? How about 2012?
A: I am exited about the music trends in weddings now and upcoming. Most brides and grooms are requesting 90’s rock and current pop and hip-hop. All great dance rhythms.
Q: What is the most important reason your clients cite for choosing The Breakers?
A: I ask every Breakers client that same question and the most frequent answer is the ambience, location and the staff.
Q: Give us three of your favorite weddings must-dos regarding music and entertainment.
A: 1) Read the crowd
2) Keep the music upbeat and lively
3) Keep the dance floor full all night
Take a look – and a listen – to Alan James and the Powerhouse band.
Q: What’s the most important piece of advice you can offer a bride and groom?
A: This is one of the most memorable evenings of your life. Don’t micro manage. Let the professionals handle the evening and have a great time.
Q: How does a wedding at The Breakers differ from those at other venues?
A: The communication between myself, the banquet captain and the catering manger for each event is second to none. Nothing is left out. Other 5 Star resorts should take lessons.
