Engage!12 :: The Breakers Before the holidays, The Breakers hosted the 10th anniversary engage! event: engage!12 :: The Breakers.

The luxury wedding business summit, founded by the amazingly talented duo Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce of Engaging Concepts, brought 250 of the wedding industry’s elite together for three days of engaging, inspiration and excitement.

There were more than 7,000 Tweets with the event hashtag #engage12, 2,000 Instagram Photos and countless Pinterest Pins.

We shared our highlights of Day 1  and Day 2 – but now we’re recapping the fabulousness of our incredible last day…

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

Day 3 of engage!12 concluded with Morning Pilates, a final General Session, java-inspired Coffee Break, a To-Go Lunch and the Farewell Gala and After Party.

The final day of General Sessions was held in the Venetian Ballroom. Attendees arrived to find yet another fun – and productive – goodie from the gals at Gifts for the Goodlife. (Click here for an inside look at all the swag!)

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

Celebrity Event Designer Ed Libby kicked off Day 3 with his session ‘Wake Up Call’ and some smart advice: “You must know and understand your market…”

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

Abby and Tait Larson of Style Me Pretty shared some fun facts about how they launched a wedding blog that changed the industry: “Want to know the ‘secret sauce’ of our company? Every single person who joins our team absolutely loves what they do.”

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

Bridal Bar Founder Harmony Walton (right) joined (from left: The Knot’s Anja Winikka, Destination I Do Editor Jennifer Stein, Media Consultant Jill Meister, Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Editor Susan Moynihan and Martha Stewart Weddings Real Weddings Editor Shira Shivada for the 6 in 6 Media Roundup.

Great pitch tip from Susan Moynihan: “No stalking, please! Twice is nice, three’s a crowd — especially when interns are involved.”

On getting published from Jennifer Stein: “Be your own publicist! Got published? Spread it around like a case of pink eye in per-school.”

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

Celebrity Caterer Peter Callahan spoke about his famed “mini bites” – and brought some treats for attendees to share.

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

At the break, attendees enjoyed an array of engaging coffee-inspired treats from flavored frappuccinos to mini macchiato shots.

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

Wedding Planner, Author & Event Designer Tara Guerard (left), shared a few secrets from her new book, Weddings by Tara Guerard – and even passed out free copies to all attendees!

Celebrity Event Designer David Beahm (right), offered some great advice: “You do you, boo. Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.” Oh, and we just loved his abbreviation for W.T.F. – “Wisdom. Tenacity. Focus.”

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

The Business of Being Creative’s Sean Low spoke about the “perfect egg” (business) and truly showing off your core. We couldn’t agree more with his favorite example: Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce of Engaging Concepts.

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

An amazing day of inspirational speakers ended with the fabulously talented Carley Roney, founder/editor of The Knot, interviewing bridal gown guru Mark Ingram of Mark Ingram Atelier. The biggest take-away: “Putting my own face on my ad really changed everything. Every bride expects a Mark Ingram Atelier Experience – whether they buy or not, it’s all about the memory.”

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

After sessions, attendees packed their own To-Go lunches – featuring pre-made sandwiches like Bavarian Pretzel Roll Rueben, Cracked Pepper Turkey, jars of Seven Grain Salad and an array of delicious goodies. They then spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the pool and enjoying The Breakers.

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

Before heading into the Gala, attendees had an opportunity to enjoy the classic cocktail culture of HMF – The Breakers new drinking and dining experience.

According to Twitter, the most popular word among Engage!12 tweeters during the conference was “love” – a perfect setup for our incredible love-themed Farewell Gala!

Attendees entered the dinning room and the Elan Artists Gospel Choir serenaded them with “All You Need Is Love…”  Guests then enjoyed a sensational four-course gourmet meal featuring Jumbo Stone Crab Claws, then Dijonnaise Crusted Rack of Lamb or Kataifi Belted Chilean Sea Bass and two surprise desserts: the Tangerine Tango Giant Martini Sundae and Orange Flower Beehive Sundae.

Engage!12 :: The Breakers

After dinner, attendees sashayed over to a knockout After Party that was most certainly not in the hotel lobby….  Hy-Lite Productions transformed the Mediterranean Ballroom with electric lighting and Entertainment Management Group (EMG) rocked the house as everyone danced the night away.

To officially wrap all three days of amazing, we leave you with the fantastic engage!12 highlight film, by Cloud Nine Creative

The Breakers opened on January 16, 1896 – making the legendary resort 117 year’s old this Wednesday!

The Breakers turns 117!

Happy Birthday, Breakers!

Henry FlaglerA Standard Oil Company magnate, Henry Flagler acquired and built railroads to serve Florida’s east coast, opening the once isolated region to development and tourism. In 1894 he built his first hotel in the southeast coast, The Royal Poinciana Hotel at Lake Worth, attracting the elite to what would become the world’s premier resort destination, Palm Beach.

In 1896, Flagler built a second hotel, The Palm Beach Inn on the beachfront of the Royal Poinciana. Soon guests requested rooms “over by the breakers.”  When Flagler redoubled the hotel’s size, he renamed it The Breakers.

In honor of the resort’s birthday, we wanted to share some timeless historical images…

Happy Birthday, Breakers!

During an expansion project – the fourth in less than a decade – The Breakers burned down on June 9, 1903. Less than a year later on February 1, 1904, it reopened to universal acclaim. Rooms started at four dollars a night, including three meals a day. The guest register read like a “who’s who” of early twentieth century America – Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Astors, Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan vacationed alongside United States presidents and European nobility.

Happy Birthday, Breakers!

Seventy-five artisans were brought from Italy to complete the magnificent paintings on the ceilings of the 200-foot long main lobby and first-floor public rooms. Far grander than its predecessor, The Breakers remains an unrivaled masterpiece.
